More families than ever are in severe financial distress
At Redkite, we have been seeing a worrying increase in the number of families in financial distress, as the challenges of childhood cancer are worsened by the cost-of-living crisis.
Our Senior Social Worker, Sam, has witnessed heartbreaking situations in the last 6 months:
- Parents skipping meals to ensure their children are fed.
- Parents selling their cars to pay bills, leaving them dependent on public transport to visit their sick child in hospital.
- Families going into debt just to keep their recovering child warm during winter.
- Siblings missing out on essentials such as school supplies and toiletries
Sam also shared a story about a parent who had to sleep in their car with their young children because they couldn't afford a place to stay near the hospital where their sick child was being treated. Your donation can prevent this from happening to another family.

- The initiative is being conducted by Redkite of Suite 301, Level 3, 418a Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010.
- Funds donated through https://fundraise.redkite.org.au/crisis-appeal-2024 for the period from 9:00 am AEST 23/09/24 and 11.59pm AEST 20/10/24 will be eligible for dollar matching or until the financial cap of $75,000 is reached.
- If the donation is cancelled or refunded during the matching period or any time after, it will not be eligible for matching offer.
- Donations received during Redkite’s Emergency Appeal period will be matched up to a maximum of AUD $75,000 by a generous donor.
- All individual donations above $2 (made solely by the donor) are tax-deductible.
- Donations made via third party platforms do not qualify for donation matching.
- Donations must be made at https://fundraise.redkite.org.au/crisis-appeal-2024 during the matching period for your donation to quality.
