Our family’s journey through childhood cancer has shown us just how important support, understanding and someone in your corner can be during some of the hardest moments imaginable.

As Charlie continues his cancer treatment, Redkite has been there for our family in ways that have made such a difference. Their support goes far beyond what we could have imagined, helping us navigate the emotional, practical and financial challenges that come with having a child in cancer treatment.

One of the things that has meant so much to us is the Redkite bag we were given. It may seem like a simple thing, but that bag has become a little symbol of being seen and understood. When we arrive at Emergency, hospital staff recognise the Redkite bag and know that Charlie is a child undergoing cancer treatment. It helps us be fast-tracked through so we don’t have to sit in the waiting bay surrounded by sick children, which can be incredibly important for a child whose immune system is compromised.

Redkite has also arranged therapy for Charlie, helping him work through his fears around hospitals, needles and the experiences that come with treatment. Having someone who understands childhood cancer and can help Charlie process those fears has been incredibly valuable to our family.

And for families like ours, where parents may have to give up work or reduce their hours to care for their child, Redkite provides financial support to help ease some of that pressure. When your focus needs to be on keeping your child safe and getting them through treatment, having that extra support can make an enormous difference.

This year, we’re cutting our hair to show our support for children going through cancer treatment and to help raise much-needed funds for Redkite.

Redkite has supported our family through some of the hardest moments of our lives. They’ve helped us feel less alone, helped Charlie face some of his biggest fears, and provided practical and financial support when we’ve needed it most.

Because Redkite has given our family so much, we want to give back and help make sure they can continue supporting other families facing childhood cancer.
